Position Summary: We are seeking a Chief Financial Officer/Controller to manage the financial operations of our organization, ensuring financial health and sustainability. This role involves overseeing financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and compliance requirements. The CFO/Controller will work closely with the CEO and senior leadership team to develop and implement financial strategies that support our mission and goals. Additionally, the CFO/Controller will oversee financial compliance for private and government grants and contracts, and provide leadership in insurance procurement, building and property management, and capital asset management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Management
- Develop and implement financial strategies that support the organizationās mission and goals
- Manage and oversee all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Develops policy and manages adherence to procedures, standards, and accounting practices for all financial activities. Maintains compliance with GAAP and applicable state, federal and local laws. Maintains adequate internal audit and budgetary controls according to policies.
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records, including the general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and other financial systems
- Prepare and present financial reports to the CEO, Finance Committee and Board of Directors, providing analysis and recommendations as needed
- Ensure compliance with all financial reporting and regulatory requirements, including tax filings, audits, and other reporting requirements
- Manage relationships with external partners, including banks, auditors, and other financial service providers
Budgeting and Forecasting
- Develop and oversee the annual budgeting process, working closely with program managers and other stakeholders to develop realistic and achievable budgets
- Monitor actual performance against budget and provide regular updates and analysis to the CEO, COO and Program Managers
- Develop and maintain financial forecasting models that support long-term financial planning and decision-making
Strategic Planning and Leadership
- Work closely with the CEO and senior leaders to develop and implement strategic plans and goals that support the organizationās mission and vision
- Lead the Finance Committee, collaborating with the CEO to provide strategic financial guidance and support to the organization
- Collaborate with other senior leaders to develop and implement strategies that support the organizationās mission and goals
- Provide leadership and mentorship to the Financial Services team, fostering a culture of servant leadership, continuous improvement, and professional development
Board Relations and Reporting
- Report on the financial performance of the organization to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors, including regular updates on budget performance, forecasts, and financial risks and opportunities
- Represent the organization at internal and external events and meetings, providing financial guidance and support as needed
Tax Filing and Compliance
- Oversee all tax filings and compliance requirements, ensuring that the organization is in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations
- Manage relationships with external auditors and other financial service providers to ensure compliance with all reporting and regulatory requirements
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Directly supervises AAA Financial Services team. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with agencyās policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employee(s); planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding the disciplining employee(s); addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelorās degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; MBA or CPA strongly preferred with experience in administration of fiscal operations; fund accounting or governmental reporting experience desired; strong organizational and analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills required.
- A history of progressively responsible experience in financial management, with at least 5 years in a nonprofit organization preferred
- Proven track record of successful financial management, including experience developing and implementing financial strategies, managing budgets, and overseeing financial reporting and compliance
- Strong leadership and management skills, with experience building and leading high-performing teams and passionate interest in mentoring others
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders
- Passion for the mission and work of the organization
Other Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to maintain multiple fiscal accounts, leaving clean audit trails.
- Ability to understand a variety of accounting models and render technical assistance to improve them.
- Ability to translate programming needs into realistic budgets.
- Ability to operate computerized accounting systems evolving technological applications as needed and available.
- Ability to work well with people on a personal basis.
