POSITION SUMMARY: The Compliance Director is a key member of the senior leadership team responsible for the coordination, monitoring, and implementation of the Corporate Compliance Plan and system. This role ensures compliance with all State and Federal programs, including the State Unit on Aging, Medicare, Medicaid, and requirements related to specialized contract work. The Compliance Director monitors and coordinates compliance activities across the agency, responds to compliance audits, and develops and leads the implementation of corrective action plans for resolving problematic issues.
SALARY RANGE: $65,000-$80,000
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reports regularly to the CEO and Board Regulatory Committee, providing guidance on potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk
- Serves as HIPAA Officer
- Develops, implements, oversees, and conducts annual assessments of the Corporate Compliance Plan, keeping up to date with legislative, regulatory, and contractual obligations and standards
- Chairs the Internal Compliance Committee and Special Investigation Unit
- Evaluates and coordinates the investigation and resolution of complaints and grievances, including coordination with service line leaders for internal hearings and State Fair Hearings
- Oversees compliance for home and community-based programs inclusive of long-term services and supports, medical and behavioral health service lines, and other programs ensuring adherence to federal and state regulations
- Collaborates with administrative staff and management to ensure billing programs comply with federal and state laws and are designed to prevent, detect, and correct any associated fraud, waste, and/or abuse
- Oversees internal audit programs to assess compliance risks in billing, chart documentation, clinical care, and operational procedures. Develops and implements internal audit programs for new service lines, ensuring all new initiatives are thoroughly evaluated for compliance risks
- Ensures that the AAA Board and staff receive orientation and ongoing education regarding corporate compliance and the Code of Ethics
- Oversees and ensures education of the management team and staff about compliance, operational issues, and issues of risk related to AAA’s lines of business
- Develops and implements onboarding and annual all-staff training plans, collaborating with Human Resources to track compliance with employee training
- Develops and implements training and other solutions to enhance outcomes in collaboration with members of the agency management and supervisory teams
- Oversees and responds to compliance audits and attestation requests, acting as lead for internal and external compliance reviews as needed
- Responsible for coordination and/or consolidation of agency compliance policies, standards, and procedures to ensure maximum efficiency across departments, including updates and revisions to remain current and in compliance with State and Federal regulations and contract requirements
- Responsible for writing policies and procedures for state, federal, and contractual programs, keeping policies updated at least annually, and coordinating training for relevant staff on updates

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises employee(s). Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the agency’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree or ability to work at the level of a bachelor’s degree in business, human services, or health care plus a minimum of five years of relevant administrative experience required; or a Master’s degree in a related field. Compliance experience and/or knowledge in aging services, healthcare, or human services strongly preferred
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to accurately define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Excellent oral and written communication skills and excellent interviewing skills are required, with a capability to listen effectively and work well with people on a personal level. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from end users, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, board of directors, and/or public groups
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions in practical situations
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must have the ability to analyze budget and policy material, write well, manage time, and work well with people on a personal basis. Good judgment must be used as well as an ability to deal with confidential issues
