Annie didn’t know where to find a face mask. As an 89-year-old woman living in an adult foster care facility, her options on finding a mask were limited. There were some in the home for caregivers to use, but they were in limited supply and the residents wanted some masks of their own.
One day she got an envelope in the mail from Area Agency on Aging with a letter, and two brand new face masks for her very own. The letter told her how to wear the masks, how to keep them clean, and other tips on how to protect herself from the Corona Virus. She was very happy to receive them and called her Area Agency on Aging Care Manager Jill to let her know how much it was appreciated.
“I just wanted to call to say thank you. I am very happy with them. They look nice. I am happy with the job Area Agency on Aging is doing for us (seniors) and that someone took the time to make these for us, and then took the time to mail them to us. It makes me very happy,” she told Jill.
Before the COVID19 pandemic, Annie was very active. She enjoys weekly ‘window visits’ from her daughter but is ready to be able to see her friends and family again. Before the virus she was a regular at church, loved meeting with her church friends, and going to dinner with her family. She said she is excited about getting back out and not being ‘cooped up’ anymore. With these masks she now has that extra layer of protection she will need so she can enjoy going out again as things start to reopen, without feeling worry.
