The Older Adult Home Modification Program (OAHMP) is provided by Region IV Area Agency on Aging in partnership with the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
The program will provide participants with the home modifications deemed vital for them to age in place, using a client-centered approach to deliver high-impact, low-cost modifications. Modifications are selected based on assessment by an Occupational Therapist and are designed to reduce fall risks, enhance accessibility, and improve functional abilities.
Common modifications that may be requested include but are not limited to:
- Bathroom Safety – Grab bars, shower chairs, toilet risers
- Entry & Mobility Support – Handrails, bed/seating mobility bars
- Lighting Improvements – Motion-activated lights, glare-reducing bulbs
- Accessibility Enhancements – Lever door handles, swing-away door hinges, automatic locks
- Safety Devices – Fire extinguishers, smoke/carbon monoxide detectors
- Home Automation – Voice-activated systems, video doorbells
This program is NOT for repair work, new bathtubs, roofs, etc. Participants must meet certain eligibility requirements.
