Community Partners in Healthy Aging

Area Agency on Aging (AAA) is launching a new tri-county initiative to bring people together around building a healthier community.

Community Partners in Healthy Aging Summits will move awareness about aging topics beyond health care and aging services and toward a community-wide movement.

The inaugural summit is set for 9-11 a.m. Oct. 1 at the Campus for Creative Aging, 2920 Lakeview Ave., St. Joseph.

The topic for the first summit is Building Dementia-Inclusive Communities. It will include a presentation focused on understanding dementia, why dementia is a community issue, the impact it has on different groups, and practical ways every sector can support inclusion. It will also feature an interactive panel discussion with community members impacted by a dementia diagnosis, and opportunities for attendees to have open discussions.

Each summit will focus on a timely, local topic or need to bring awareness and spark action. Summits will be held quarterly at different locations around the tri-county area. Upcoming topics include:

  • Building a Community that Supports Family Caregivers
  • Building Communities Where Everyone Has a Place to Age
  • Building Community Capacity

If you would like to partner with Area Agency on Aging to help plan a Community Partners in Healthy Aging Summit, contact Amanda Drew at 269-982-7740 or amandadrew@areaagencyonaging.org.

Register for the Oct. 1 summit

Community Partners in Healthy Aging summits are free and open to the community. Registration is requested for planning purposes but not required.
